Is your company’s app struggling to grow in the key markets you serve? Then perhaps it is time to expand your focus to emerging markets. After all, the world’s mobile market is becoming increasingly globalized, so it’s now more important than ever to consider rolling out your app outside your comfort zone.
You may already have an idea of which markets you want to target, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Many of our Newzoo’s Global Smartphone & Tablet Trackersubscribers, including some of the biggest companies in the world, use our device intelligence to optimize their mobile product development and market rollout strategy — not only gauging the number of smartphone users in their target markets but also what kind of devices are being used there. Luckily, the tracker lets you analyze usage of the 3.1 billion smartphones across the world, allowing you to slice and dice the data per market, device, and more. You can even track and segment a market based on mobile hardware performance benchmarks over time.
The tracker shows that in Mexico, for example, the number and share of high-end devices has been steadily growing for almost three years, as shown in the image below. Please note: high-end device split is based on CPU performance according to widely used benchmark tests (geekbench multicore). High-end devices perform at least two standard deviations better than the median benchmark score.
In March 2017, the share of high-end smartphones in Mexico was 10.8%. That share rose to 20.4% in March 2018 and 23.8% in March 2019. With our Global Smartphone & Tablet Tracker, you can use a few clicks of your mouse to check the number and share of high-end devices in any market around the world.
For this use case, screen size and resolution also play a key role. These and many other hardware features, including RAM and CPU, are trackable per device for any market via the tracker. In March 2019, 29.8% of all active smartphones in Mexico had a 1920 x 1080 (1080p) screen, making it the market’s top screen resolution. This is followed by 1290 x 720 screens (720p), covering 28.9% of Mexico’s active devices, and 2560 x 1440 (QHD), covering 9.6%. Analytics such as these equip mobile app developers and publishers with the market segmentation tools and active-device data necessary to build apps tailored to the most-common mobile devices — in the world’s mature and emerging markets alike.
